Anyone make jewelry? I have a few questions about starting up!?

So I'm thinking about starting to sell jewelry on amazon/ebay/etsy.com. Any tips or advice? Where should I get the supplies? Why do silver? Will people buy lots since it's more expensive? I would really welcome any advice. I'm thinking the most about earrings and necklaces.

Your question is fairly broad, but I will take a stab at answering a few items.

Supplies: You suggested you are starting up. Thus I imagine that supplies mean more than metal. I suggest you purchase your tools through Rio Grande. They have an excellent catalouge and all of their tools are top quality. They will send you nice catalogues.

If you happen to live in a large city, you will have a building or two downtown where the custom jewelers and manufacturers work. There is a good chance there is a small jewelry supply store there. Also, these guys who work in this building will be a wealth of information for somebody like you.

Metal: Silver is pretty cheap. Sterling is typical for jewelry, but fine silver, although softer, won't tarnish since it contains no alloy. You might try Hoover and Strong in Richmond, VA. You can trust this outfit to send any amount of metal to you in a short amount of time. You can order it by phone in virtually any gauge in wire or sheet. They also have findings. I live in Oregon and use them for a special 22KT gold alloy.

Selling on E-Bay? I cannot help. I do not know what you are making. Best of luck.
Regards.
