How To Keep Your Cat Happy and Still Maintain Your Furniture and Sanity Intact?
What can I do to stop her from scratching those items I value and want to keep in their relatively pristine state.

Get her a scratching post or little mice toys. My cat loves bottle caps. These items distract my cat. Put your valuable chinas or glasses up on shelfs or in a china cabinet. If your cat goes up of counters of shelf spray the with a little water or push her off and say a stern "no". Also if your cat scratches the posts of your couch or chairs drape a matching blanket over the arms. Its decorative and it keeps your cat from scratching! If your cat doesn't like to scratch the post add catnip or catnip spray and it will draw your cat to it. Hope I Helped!
