Gender of a tabby cat with white spots?
If a tabby cat has white spots, do you know for sure, that it's female? Cause I really couldn't get that explanation with the X and Y chromosomes.
With only a few exceptions, there is no link between color and sex. Just about all calico and tortie cats are female, and about 80% of all orange cats are male. Other than that, both sexes can be any color. The calico and tortie coloration are on the same gene that has the 'x' chromosome for female, so they get inherited together. Sometimes Nature gets carried away, and a cat can get an extra set of chromosomes, and then you get that very rare male calico. Hopefully this oversimplified explanation helps you understand it a bit better. Genetics is complicated.
So long story short - a tabby cat with or without while spots can be a male or a female.
