My calico hates the vet. Is it possible to get her used to them?

The vet said it's the breed. But is there anyway that taking my cat to the vet can be easier? We basically have to put her in a carrier that she can't see out of, and whenever anyone gets near her, she starts to hiss and growl. And when it comes to getting shots, forget it. They have to literally pin her down while she practically screams and hisses, and bats at them with her claws. It's scary and I hate having to put her through it. At home, she is an angel, the complete opposite. Any suggestions?

This is VERY typical for a tortoiseshell or calico cat. You could try bringing her to the vet often but not doing anything to her to try to desensitize her to it, but it may not be worth the hassle. Or you could try a sedative at home. Don't feel too bad, we know they're very different cats at home. They do make quite a racket sometimes, and scruffing them (holding the skin on the back of the neck) looks really harsh, but it's the best and safest way, for her and the staff. Some calico's have to be put under anesthesia for a checkup and shots!
